a degree or two through the last 24. stuck in low 40s. we're in for that round of rain move in for the afternoon and into evening. the brunt of this storm heads well to the north of us. we saw all of the damage it done in the plains states yesterday even blizzard conditions and thunder snow over the rocky. that's not what we are in for, for this one. widespread scattered showers afternoon we'll work through this into the afternoon and also into the evening then clear out into evening which means sunshine for the weekend. more details in a few minutes a bad crash on the cape sends a state trooper to the hospital. investigators say a driver going the wrong way slammed head-on into the police cruiser. >> let's go out to nicole oliverio. she is live in yarmouth right now. nicole, this driver we understand had some sort of medical condition? >> we're told that this 80-year-old driver apparently

shouldn't have been on the road and did have a medical condition and apparently driving on the wrong way. what's unclear is how long he was travelling the wrong way. situation. they were trying to slow down traffic to prevent an accident. then the elderly driver crashed head on with one of the cruisers. barnstable fire responded. it took a while to get the trooper out of his vehicle. he was taken to cape cod hospital. we know he had some injuries but has been released and is at home. we're told resting. as for the elderly driver he okay. he's also going to be summoned to court for negligent operation and state police are looking to have his license revoked pleadly. live in yarmouth, nicole england." breaking news now milford police are on the scene after a man the found dead on the side

themselves safe too. police are very worried about this. they want people to be smart when using the online dating services. they say they are especially concerned because the crimes have been linked to these phone phony profile. a perfect profile that's not what it seems >> it's really scary. especially being alone. and you know talking over social media just like a one on one kind of thing. police say someone trolling the internet looking for an easy target to rob. it's call cat phishing in the last five weeks six people report meeting someone online but then when they show up to meet them face to face it's a set up. the victim say a guy pulls out a gun and robs them. if you meet up with someone online meet in public place first. the robberies all happened when the victims were lured to homes. police also say when using online dating sites do your homework.

get a call from person in pennsylvania. he said he's playing online game with women in lowell who told him she's being held against her will. >> police immediately went to well-being check. they found the women they were looking for but police say she's wasn't kidnapped. she just had a fight with her boyfriend. she told 7news it's a case of miss communication. but while investigators were in the apartment they found replica ar-15 assault rifle and drugs. they charged the boyfriend. i wasn't trying to bust the entire house. i was trying to help out a friend of my mine with health and well-being. this first time i did something like. i thought it was necessary that needed to be done. 7news also spoke with the suspect in this case off camera. he said he was wrongly arrested.

live in lowell, john cocoa, 7 news "today in new england." more than 3 years after the attack of bengazi, john doety's family get closer to an ending. steven lynch told the "boston herald" they are close to a solution. winchester native glen doughty and cia contractor killed during the 2012 bengazi attack. lynch said no one is against them receiving death benefits. they are trying to figure out where the money comes from. doughty one of four american whose died when militant attacked the u.s. consulate. insurance company refuses to play claim to sister and mother because he didn't have wife and children. they don't want the benefits. they also want to see legislation passed to make sure this doesn't happen to other families. at the newsdesk.

instances of lazar being pointed at helicopters down in new york city. the chapter for nbc affiliate in new york was in the air last night when the reporter and the pilot noticed someone pointing a green lazar at them. that's when they contacted police. >> hitting us right now. don't look, george. you think this is joke, huh. >> the lazar appears to be coming from behind a restaurant. police swarmed that area. they arrested the man but officers say the man also pointed the laser at the police department helicopter when it tried to investigate. reported bomb threat have forced police to increase security on the campus of the university of missouri. student have received threats. there were angry how the school handled racial incident. police arrested one man for posting threats online. students and faculty are concerned.

you can see the rain moving in to southern new england. here's the front that we're expecting to move in and look at the bigger picture shows that storm system amazingly last night this storm was bringing severe weather to the plains states and it brought blizzard conditions and thunder snow amazing we saw all of that. a little bit quieter in the brunt of the storm headed to north of us. nevertheless the front does kick on some showers as we get into the afternoon and evening hours. it does take until about the noon show you may want to check in with us for the time line on that at noon here on 7news. because we're in for those showers to be on again and off again throughout the the rest of day into the evening then finally the clouds start to clear out in the wee hours of tomorrow and sunshine back in the forecast. been a while since we seen it. this the not a ton of rainfall.

>> a family pet finding himself in a lot of trouble trapped in a deep well. poor little pup spent the night at the bottom of the well. safely. nancy chin with more. still scary to see. you hear about cats having nine lives. firefighter they had to think quickly. because they didn't have a harness for a dog. one firefighter had the idea to connect two harnesses. it turned out it worked. buddial plummeted 25 feet to bottom of well. firefighter had their handful trying to pull it out safely tuesday morning but he's feeling better now. the 2-year-old dog spent what must have felt like weeks at the bottom of the well. >> he's hungry. he probably thought he would do. owner thought buzzy nearby. i heard him barking.

didn't think anything of. then silence. next morning no where to be found. it was buddy's actual father who found him. our other dog was standing on the one of the rocks near there and looking down there so we thought that he might be down there we went to look down there. and we saw him looking up at us. >> the family immediately called the fire department when we got there i went to the well and i looked down and i couldn't believe how deep it was. firefighter climbed down attached makeshift harness to buddy. halfway up it started to slip toward the back. we adjusted it and it worked out fine. we were happy. nice happy ending that he came out well you can see. he look happy there too. he didn't have a scratch on him. and that well which been covered and reinforced. it will eventually be filled so something like this can never

road to begin with. about 11:30 last night where police got the call he was heading east in the westbound side along route 6. police have two patrol cars out along route 6. they were trying to warn other drivers to prevent an accident from happening. its at that point that wrong-way elderly driver smashed into one of those state police cruisers. barnstable fire responded. they say it took a while to get the trooper out of the damaged car. he was taken to cape cod he's already been treated and released. he's expected to be okay. he's going to be summoned to court. he was cited for that accident. state police because he was suffering from medical condition they are looking to have license revoked immediately. live from yarmouth, nicole oliverio, 7news "today in new england." a suspected arsonist caught on camera in dover, new hampshire and now police need your help finding the man in

this picture. they claim he lit a car on fire. in an apartment building parking lot last week. anyone with any information is asked to go ahead and contact police. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire inside a home. flames broke out earlier this morning. luckily no one was hurt. police officer said that scrap yard worker helped him recover two stolen cemetery investigate iran. they called police to report that two bronze grave markers had been turned in they were likely stolen from the nearby cemetery. they plan to press charges against whoever brought them in. also this morning a cat phishing crime in boston. the boston police went to track down the people they say are baiting the victims. victoria warren has more about this cat phishing. seems >> it's really scary.
